The Los Angeles area is grappling with multiple wildfires, with the Hollywood Hills significantly impacted. The Sunset Fire, which ignited on January 8 near Runyon Canyon Park, has rapidly expanded to over 50 acres, prompting mandatory evacuations for tens of thousands of residents. • Lidia Fire: Erupting on January 8 on the northwest edge of the Angeles National Forest, this fire has grown to 348 acres and is at 40% containment.

Collectively, these wildfires have resulted in at least five confirmed fatalities and the destruction of over 2,000 structures. Approximately 130,000 residents are under evacuation orders. The fires have also led to significant infrastructure challenges, including widespread power outages affecting millions and severely compromised air quality.

The firefighting efforts involve over 7,500 personnel, but containment is being hindered by strong Santa Ana winds and dry conditions. Authorities have declared a state of emergency for both Los Angeles city and county.
